Dehydration In Cats Is a Serious Medical Condition

Dehydration in cats is a serious medical condition, which may even lead to death of your pet cat. The disease is also known as hypohydration, and poses a potential danger to the life situation in certain situations, or heat. This disease is caused due to the extreme loss of water and essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium and chloride). Most animals are usually composed of 60% water and when this figure falls to 5% or more, a cat shows symptoms of dehydration.

Causes of dehydration in cats include: diarrhea, vomiting, increased urination, heat stroke, fever and loss of blood

Signs of dehydration include: dry mouth, sunken eyes, reduced skin elasticity, lethargy, increased heart rate, constipation, and reduced capillary refill time

To determine the intensity level of dehydration your pet cat can just gently pull some skin at the base of the neck cats. In a normal cat, you will notice an immediate denial of the skin, however, in the case of dehydrated cat, the skin will take longer to reject.
